 CHAIR'S CORNER

PRIORITIES
April Article

Boy!  What an understatement for employees working and a fearful reality for those of our profession currently in the unemployment line.

What is most important?  Family, health, food, shelter, clothing are a few quick thoughts.  What is not needed?  A new car, house, vacation trip are a few things that come to mind.

Unless not voted in, I will likely become the Section Chair for 2009-2010.  Oh Boy!  During one of our country’s harshest economic downturns – I’m going to work at keeping our membership stabilized, strong and focused.  The section plans to continue bring ASQ-4-U sessions to you and expand it to our website.

Your section will continue to seek and bring fine speakers into our area to educate and stimulate interest as we work to maintain and preserve our resources.  Fortunately, most of our section leaders will and have continued to commit themselves to our chapter, even after being displaced.  That speaks highly to the commitment of the men and women that run our volunteer organization – and to them I must share our collective gratitude.

I ask you all to continue to use the tools of our trade to improve you, your family and your employer and/or employees – wages may be cut or gone, but using a Pareto Chart – we can still set our priorities because we have the wisdom to preserver and long-term knowledge to know not to become discouraged.

I regret I will be unable to attend the tour this month at The University of Toledo, but priorities have been set by my wife!!  Hope many of you can make the tour and plan to enjoy dinner following the tour the evening of Thursday, April 16th.  The neat part is – we will be giving out our annual scholarships to the students (and workers) of the future – our future.  Hope you can make it out and celebrate their futures.

After that, our last 2008-2009 Dinner Meeting will be held at El Matador’s on Airport Highway on May 21st and will be a Member Appreciation Dinner Night with many ASQ Alumni invited to share their wisdom and reflect on our 60 years serving the area.  (…and I have confirmed with the wife, I plan on attending…) so, I look forward to seeing in May.

Best regards and keep moving forward,

Bob Mason
Chair-Elect 2008-2009
