May Section Chair Article

I Am Passionately Grateful.

As I prepare for summer and handing over the reigns of the Toledo ASQ Section to Mark Schoenlein, I am grateful to everyone that served on the Executive Committee and to each of our 450 members.  I have matured.  I read a few of my earlier articles and found that I was passionate and will remain passionate in my support of our volunteer organization.

I’ve decided to take my own advice …and will smile more, take time to reflect and recognize the path I’ve taken may not be correct or accepted, but was taken instead of becoming frozen to take action.

I will work on being a mover instead of an observer.  I am looking forward to becoming the Chair-Elect next year and work to change negative situations.  I will work to control those things that impede our organizations progress.  I will continue to try challenging and changing those situations that cause our organization to waiver.

On April 12, I had the honor and opportunity to meet with many of Region 10’s section leaders.  I was revitalized!  I felt poor meeting attendance was our choice of speakers, I felt poor board member attendance was a reflection of my skills (and this could still be), but many area sections are performing at levels below ours.  I realized it was a state of the economy and not a personal reflection of my or other board members passion.  I was pleased to have 30 members come out to the Statistics and Member Appreciation Dinner Meeting in April.

I knew then, I was in an organization that looks to grow its members.  Toledo ASQ members are talented and passionate.  The key is to recognize – we all show it differently and use and respect those differences.  In Quality, I know “How many customers are thankful for the time spent “to do your job” as expected?” is not a measure of performance, but a continuing task of fulfillment.

My passion is deeper and I hope many of you will come out to the Dinner Meeting this May and hear about were Region 10 and National ASQ are focusing their attention.  In addition, it is a nice evening to see students who are getting scholarships from our Section and recognize this year’s leaders of our Section.  .

I am very thankful to the members of the board and the Toledo ASQ section members who support a better tomorrow – today!

Wishing you a safe summer and passionately grateful,

Bob Mason

2007-08 Section Chair
